this is my standard chocolate buttercream recipe.
6 tbsp butter, softened
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/3-3/4 c dutch process cocoa
2 2/3 cup unsifted confectioners sugar
cream butter, add cocoa & confectioners sugar alternately with milk. beat to spreading consistency and blend with vanilla. spread on cake or cupcakes immediately.

Fantastic! Just looking at the recipe, I wasn't sure there would be enough for our round two-layer cake, but there was! A very soft, spreadable icing.
i always underestimate how much icing this recipe makes! i'm glad it worked for you :).
